What Does Resurrection Mean To Us?

The movie “The Passion of the Christ” has been wonderfully used of God to bring both Christians and non-Christians the reality of the suffering of Jesus in our place and the great sacrifice of our Lord at the cross. Make no mistake about it, every moment of Jesus’ life including those last twelve hours were ordered by our Heavenly Father for us and all the world. The basis of our faith however, lies in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. If Jesus was not risen, then a man suffered horribly for what He believed and we are all still dead in our sins.
The message of this great gospel we preach is “…Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that he was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). 1 Corinthians 15:14, 17-19 “And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. And if Christ is not risen, then your faith is futile, you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most pitiable.” Can you see that the Christian faith completely depends on the actual physical resurrection of the dead crucified body of Jesus Christ or else it is all a lie? Praise God Jesus is raised from the dead and He is alive today, seated at the right hand of the Father and living in our hearts by the person of the Holy Spirit!
Now what does that mean to us? It means that we now have hope, a confident expectation that not only in this life, but for all eternity we shall reign with Him forevermore! According to Romans chapter eight it means that we are free from the law of sin and death and walk according to a new law and that law is the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus! It means that the same resurrection power that God the Father used to raise Jesus from the dead now dwells in this mortal body and is making this body alive with that resurrection power! It means that we can be led by the same Holy Spirit to crucify or mortify the deeds of the flesh and empowered to do the same works He did and greater works! It means that Almighty God is our Father just like he is Jesus’ Father and that as his children we are joint-heirs with Jesus Christ and though we may suffer persecution as Jesus did we also share in His glory!
You see friends, if we camp out at the cross, we will never experience His resurrection. We cannot lose sight of the cross, but our life today is to be lived in the power and glory of His resurrection. Because he lives I can live, I can be, I can go, I can do, I can say all that Christ Jesus said, I can do all that Jesus did, I can go wherever Jesus went and I can be whatever Jesus is. Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. Not tribulation, not distress, not famine, nakedness, persecution, peril or sword. In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Let’s set our hearts to live this glorious resurrection power by the person of the Holy Spirit to bring glory to our Lord Jesus Christ
